FEET: they take you places, and leave your mark.
Download this free 'end of the dozen' project booklet. I'd love to know how you use it in your classroom. The project is about self-discovery, and each idea could be programmed for a day or a week; it could also work well on a leadership camp.
Activity 1 takes a wide view, and looks at being literate and/or educated. Starting with a WHOLE CLASS DISCUSSION about the concepts, groups of 4 students could delve deeper and discuss what they are literate in, and what they desire to be literate in. Finishing with individual students writing, drawing, taping, animating ... either or both of these two.
Activity 2 requires students to look at how they operate in thei r world.
Using the premise that your thoughts drive your action, the DISCUSSION focuses on tracing thoughts, actions and memories. As an example:
Thoughts: a child is hurt by comments of others, and feels anger, hate
Actions: when they next meet they act out those feelings physically or verbally, and face discipline because of it.
Memories: students are asked to list all possible memories created from the thoughts and actions. Role plays, posters, letters to express different thoughts and memories can all be used here.
Activity 3 delves deeper into motive and actions, with a simple, positive self-analysis through the use of T-Tables and 'triangulation' of PURPOSE, SELF AND CHOICES.
Activity 4 looks at ways the word FEET can be used in literary devices.
Activity 5 takes a lighter look at animals and their feet.
Activity 6 is a major project task, that investigates ideas and content of 'young adult' books. Using the new knowledge of themselves, they are challenged to use a common scenario and write a short story for young adult readers.
You will need a pdf Reader to access the project booklet.
